THE ASSOCIATION

The association which covers the stone sector in Lombardy has been founded in 1996 taking the secular hystory of the lombard stone masonry craftship. The best example of the ability shown worldwide in natural stone carving, architecture and sculpture by the Lombards is the main church of Milan the 'Duomo' which is a rare gothic cathedral in white marble.

During the roman empire Pliny the Younger who lived in Como mentions the stone masons working (magistri comacini) for his Villa in Bellaggio on Como Lake.
During Longobards the first mention of Comacine masters was in an edict of 643 of the Longobard king Rothari then in the memoratorium of Liutprando in 713. From this point the history of architecture, sculpture and stone masonry is full of people from Lombardy, from Romanic to Neoclassicism.
